Pig Farming
Through the management of several livestock units in Portugal, Angola and Bulgaria, the Euroeste group rears close to 18,000 breeding sows, representing an estimated production of 480,000 pigs per year.
- Portugal: 16.000 breeding sows
- Angola: 720 breeding sows
- Bulgaria: 1.500 breeding sows
In the Euroeste group’s pig farms, air cooling and renewal, maintenance of appropriate temperatures and regular cleaning and disinfection are strictly complied with, given their importance for the efficient and safe development of the animals.
In the pig farms, there is an area for evacuation and waste treatment, where liquid waste and solid waste are separated. The liquid component is treated in order to be recycled through a system of basins, by making use of the solid part for the marketing of organic and organic-mineral fertilisers.
Genetics
The Euroeste group is responsible for vast research work in the area of animal genetics and the artificial insemination of pigs which, based on an in-depth study of the reproductive system, involves the collection of semen, heat detection and embryo transfer.
This research work, through the use of PIC’s genetic improvement programme, is carried out in Portugal in the Magoito Selection Nucleus, a genetic nucleus also being under development in Angola.
Years of experience in this area have resulted in the gathering of essential information and knowledge that will guarantee high levels of efficiency in the inseminations carried out in all the animals pertaining to the group.
